Extravagant and audacious, interior design was very unique in the Victorian period compared to the contemporary styles found today. Homes were decorated with rich fabrics, elaborate patterns, and bold colours. Often, the architecture of the house contributed to the uniqueness of its interior design, primarily through detailed woodwork and wall textures. Furniture and décor were equally impressive with their remarkable craftsmanship and luxurious materials. Hillary House remains preserved to its original decorative state, still embodying the striking Victorian exterior and interior design, more than a century later.

In this exhibition, we will explore a few spaces of Hillary House and their noteworthy Victorian characteristics. Complimented by artifacts in the Hillary House historical collection, get to know the key elements of interior design from 1837 to 1901.
